Paleo Diet: Sweet Potato Grain-Free Popovers

December 3rd, 2011

In the Paleolithic era humans hunted meat and gathered vegetables. They did not eat grains, legumes or dairy products. Today there is a diet called the Paleo diet that replicates this hunter-gatherer diet of real food. This diet is a great choice for those who are sensitive or allergic to wheat or gluten because grains are not consumed. Quite a few health issues are due to the digestion of wheat, or so it’s believed. These health issues are celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, possibly psoriasis and many others. So many packaged products on our grocery store shelves contain a wheat component of some kind, which makes it hard to avoid which makes the Paleo diet a great choice to follow. This can be difficult for someone who has been newly diagnosed with wheat or gluten related health issue. The good news however, is that you can find great tasting Paleo diet recipes that will not only satisfy your cravings but nourish your body as well.

Sweet Potato (Grain Free) Popovers is just one of many great Paleo Diet Recipes. Generously grease a muffin tin and place it in the oven while it preheats to 375 degrees. In a blender combine one medium baked sweet potato that has been peeled and mashed, four pastured eggs, one cup of milk, three tablespoons of coconut oil, one cup of arrowroot flour, and one half teaspoon each of cinnamon, allspice and salt. Blend until smooth and pour into the muffin cups but fill only two-thirds of the way full. Bake for 50 minutes but do not open the oven while baking. After the 50 minutes, make a small slit in the top of the crust then bake for another ten minutes. Serve the popovers while still hot. Mix honey and cinnamon with grass-fed butter and spread on the top of the popovers.

Quick and Easy

October 27th, 2011

This I think is the best way to describe cooking with a pressure cooker quick and easy. It does stand to reason that if you contain all the heat within the pot whatever is inside will cook that much quicker. The two best materials for making pressure cookers are either Stainless steel or Aluminium each of these have there advantages as well as there disadvantages. Aluminium is a far better conductor of heat but it does tend to stain quite easily depending of course on what you put inside. Stainless steel does not conduct heat quite so well although it does do it good enough, but it is a far easier material to keep clean. Presto pressure cookers are available in both Aluminium as well as Stainless steel and there are plenty of reviews to be read online about both. When you look online you will also find the best prices and where to go to get them.

Mashed Potato is a Legend

July 13th, 2011

Mashed potatoes, by definition, are potatoes that have been boiled and mashed to a pulpy consistency. We all know that these mashed potatoes are a legend! Mashed potatoes are the best side dish ever invented by mankind and is continuing its legacy throughout history. This has been on the paper since 1896, which was the first publication of mashed potatoes, but this simple dish has undoubtedly been a favorite for much longer. The best ever traditional mashed potatoes recipe needs total vigilance and carefulness to prepare it to its perfection; it does not only require simple, light-handed mashing, but it needs total attention and skill to enable the flavors to blend exquisitely. It also calls for the perfect kind of potato to be used, in this case, the Yukon Gold potatoes because of its waxy quality which tends to result in a more flavorful end product; they also have less starch and higher moisture content. Also, always use your hand in mashing the potatoes or else you’ll end up having a sticky glue when using a food processor.
